The Daniel Schnakenberg Foundation supports families in Bremen in participating in recreational activities.

In order for a grant to be approved, certain conditions must be met. You can find out what these are and what else you need to know on this page.

Requirements and subsidies

A woman is sitting at her laptop, addressing a man formally and talking to him. The man is standing in front of her and giving her a thumbs up.

For measures that last at least 10 days.

We encourage the participation of young people and children in recreational trips if the following conditions are met:

  • Residence in Bremen
  • Max. age 17 years
  • The recreational trip will be organized by a recognized provider

Participants can only receive a grant from the foundation once a year.

The subsidies amount to up to 80% of the daily rates, with a maximum of €20.00 per day. Subsidies are based on net income. The calculation table from the application is used to determine the subsidy amount.

For measures that last no longer than 10 days.

The organization implementing the project can submit a lump-sum application to the foundation and thus request a grant covering one-quarter of the total costs. The requirements for this are:

  • Maximum age of participants: 17 years
  • Residence in Bremen
  • The co-payment must be declared
  • Other grants must be given priority.

For further questions regarding funding, please feel free to contact us!

We support families and single parents from Bremen with at least one child who participate in family leisure activities organized by non-profit organizations or book a recreational stay at a recognized family holiday center. (Exception: Schloss Dankern holiday center. You can also travel there with your family.)

A list of recognized family holiday resorts is published every two years in the catalog of the Federal Association for Family Recreation . The holiday programs may last a maximum of 21 days and cannot be split into multiple trips. You can apply for a subsidy every two years.

The subsidies are calculated based on net family income. The subsidy amount is a maximum of €15.00 per day and person, or is covered up to the documented costs of accommodation and train travel. The calculation table from the application is used to determine the subsidy amount

  • Grants can only be awarded within the limits of available funds.
  • Foreign families can apply for subsidies if they have a permanent residence permit.
  • When determining net income, only maintenance costs and childcare costs for single parents can be deducted.
  • Rental expenses are included as a lump sum in the income table. Young people with their own earned income who are not participating in the program are not taken into account.
  • Children and young people living in long-term foster care receive the maximum subsidy. The annual holiday allowance of €286.32, which children and young people in long-term foster care receive from the authorities, is deducted from the maximum subsidy. Foster children are not included in the calculation of family income.
  • Net income must be proven by a current earnings statement, the job center notification or, in the case of self-employed persons, by the income statement from the year before last.

About the procedure

  • The Bremen-based Daniel Schnakenberg Foundation advises organizations and families residing in the city of Bremen on the implementation of the funding.
  • Subsidies can be applied for through the organizations running children's and youth recreation programs or directly through the administration of the Daniel Schnakenberg Foundation. Organizations that calculate the subsidy amount themselves apply to the Bremen branch of the Daniel Schnakenberg Foundation for the subsidies for their respective programs. Bremen-based organizations can bill arrival and departure as one day each (processing fee applies). Applications for Blue Card benefits must be given priority.
  • For family recreation, for youth recreation providers not based in Bremen, or upon request for providers from Bremen, the Daniel Schnakenberg Foundation takes over the calculation of the subsidy.
  • Exceptions to these funding requirements must be clarified with the Daniel Schnakenberg Foundation in each individual case in a timely manner.
  • Each provider settles accounts with the Bremen-based Daniel Schnakenberg Foundation four weeks after the completion of the program. No additional payments will be made for completed recreational activities.
  • The calculation sheets must be kept by the sponsors for three years to allow the foundation to conduct a possible audit.
